After a little bit of deliberation over how I was going to construct him, I finally decided to carve his body from three stacked rectangular traybakes, then construct his head from Rice krispie treat mixture.
I then crumb coated him with chocolate buttercream and left him to chill for a while.
I iced his head and body pretty much with one piece of sugarpaste minus the underside of his head and neck. I covered these and merged the pieces together. For his legs I used sugar paste and painted his hooves on.
Mutlicoloured extruded icing for his mane and tail and he was pretty much complete. Apart from of course the import horn - made from a skewer wrapped in modelling paste.
A bit of edible glitter and Mr Unicorn was ready to be eaten. I was a little sorry to see him go, but happy that his new owner was so delighted with the finished cake.
I posted a series of pictures on facebook of the process of making him and it has so far reached an incredible 8.5k people.
